Exercise

Regular exercise is so important for not just our physical health, but also for our mental, emotional and spiritual health. This is particularly so as we get older.

What is also increasingly evident is the importance of resistance (weight training) exercise as we get older primarily to counter muscle loss but that also has numerous other benefits.

I have tried to keep fit and healthy most of my life, and more recently become a keen fan of watching Crossfit. As a result, I am currently aiming to take part in a Hyrox Competition next year (2025) to mark my 70th birthday.

On this page I have curated a number of links to both websites and videos which I hope visitors will find useful in developing both their interest in exercise as well as a regular exercise routine. To that end, I ask you this question: "How much do you love your future self?" Because if you love your future self, you will do whatever is needed now to ensure the welfare of the future you.

The majority of these links and videos are targeted at the over 40s+ age group.

I will be adding more and more links to this page over time, so please visit regularly to see what is new.

One of the key things that comes out of doing exercise in groups is the development of a community all working togther, and the immense benefits to mental health that sense of belonging and being connected provides. We tend to focus mostly on our Physical, Mental, Emotional, Spiritual and even Sexual health, but all too often forget the aspect that underpins all of those, our Social Health. To that end I would encourage everyone to join a community that provides a group activity where everyone is striving for improvement and each encouraging the other. From what I have seen so far, the Crossfit community is one of the best from that perspective.
